This is flying a Hull!!!

Okay, so bored today I found this video, is is long and starts a little slow but check out how they fly a hull on this thing... actually two hulls!!!

How fast do you think they were going ? The sea conditions were light based on the waves the boarders were on, no caps. 10 knots of air and lock at that thing go!

Wow, I didn't imagine that those could pitch. Those guys were hanging close to 20 feet in the air, all the discussion about falling on a sail from our boat, can you imaging it on one of those.

Compared to some of our cats how fast are those 40's. Could they leave us in the dust or what.

No idea, but the tall square-top rig is designed to do exactly that - get two hulls out of the water for the least hull resistance.

The ama's (the outside hulls on a trimaran) on those boats do no really have enough floatation to support the whole boat - they make up for this with long, curved daggerboards that act as hydrofoils which provide the extra lift.

Board or boat - I can't decide which would be more fun, but when that Tri gets up on one ama, I think I'd rather be on the board - that's a little scary!

The fact that this windy world is largely covered in water obviously means that man was meant to sail.

I posted the video link over on rec dot windsurfing... One of the guys there claimes to have been on that tri recently. He said that the day he was on the boat, there was 12kt of wind and they hit 22kt.

He figures that the winds were not much higher during the video, "less than 20 knots of wind". Since there were no whitecaps, I'm guessing closer to the 12 kt range.
