In these post-9/11 days, I wouldn't park that trailer (minus Hobie) with the "Storpedo" pointing at a public building...

Be afraid... be very afraid.

Very nice. I only have a couple small critisisms. I see some "snagging points" inside the tube.

I'm working on my own variation of the storpedo, so I should have some pictures showing my solution to the issue.

I wish my cuts were that straight.

I might retract that comment. Do you have any picture of the inside where the handles and latches are. I want to see how they're attached on the inside.

The big snagging point I see are the bolts holding the hooks in.

Also, did you recess the hinges?

No more pics, but I attached the handles and the latches (and interior hooks for the main sheet and downhaul blocks and line) with SS machine screws and SS nylock nuts. I used a file and a Dremel tool to grind off any part of the screw proud of the nut. The nuts themselves are quite smooth. I considered not using nuts but instead tapping the PVC for the screws, but figured I would need to grind off excess screw length with this method also. I surface mounted the hinges and attached them with SS wood screws. Again, I ground off the excess screws so I would not have any sharp points inside the tube.

After using the tube a few times this Summer, I still like it allot, but think I will add hooks and retainer straps to the inside of the top half to hold my second set of sails and boom. Also, I will likely put PFD's and trap seats in the car or in a separate small trailer box, since they are bulky and might not fit in the tube if I carry carry two sets of sails w/booms.

Wonderful info, thanks. Your design and tips have helped me immensely.

I ended up using smooth " stainless steel security screws" and nylock nuts. I put the smooth screws on the inside and the nylocks on the outside. The whole assembly is just going to spin if anyone tries to get in.

I think I like your idea better.

I'm used 3/4" lexan instead of plywood. I was able to buy the scraps from a local manufacturing company for a low price.

If I had thought about it I would have used something other than ply. Since polyurethane glue doesn't bond to PVC anyway, it wouldn't matter what I used since I also used screws to attach the ends panels.

A few things I forgot to mention- I will be loosely laying strips (approx 3" wide) of "DriDeck" or similar open-weave vinyl floor mat in the tube to keep the sail off the bottom to provide a channel for water to drain. I also drilled a half inch hole angled backwards in the aft end of the tube to allow for drainage- I have backed the trailer in too far a few times  . I am also going to add some sort of vent holes to allow for air circulation. I don't think I will add a dehumidifier like some have done to their tubes/boxes, since I remove everything from the tube, once I get home.

Are you going to have it done for your trip to Lake Maxinkukee?

Hopefully..........I've got some of it done. I was going to hinge the front half and use an access door on the back end.
