I have an older Harken 7:1 mainsheet system. The base block is a triple 2.25" block attached to a 3" single ratchet block and cam cleat. I want to upgrade the base block to a 6:1 low profile system. Can someone enlighten me to the differences between standard base block, air carbos, hexaratchets etc. What would I be missing if I buy the cheapo (relatively speaking) stock triple block with cam and becket? I sail in rough water if that makes any difference.

All Harken is good stuff with ball bearings, etc. I think there may be a minimal weight difference between the systems, and also a small price difference.
Just make sure you get a bottom block that specifies that it has a rachet (some of the blocks don't have it). Beyond that, you really can't go wrong.

I really love my carbo ratchmatic blocks. I've had them for 3 years and worth every penny. Of course the right sheet will make a world of difference as well

what boat is it going on I assume is a H18 with your current block set up.
if it were a H16 I'd go carbo for the added mast rake, not sure how critical it is on the other boats. The carbo's looks really cool tho!

I'm sailing an H16 now. My 7:1 system is from a P18 which worked well enough with the angled, higher boom. I really need a low profile set up for the Hobie though.

Low profile??? Carbo Ratchmatic!!!!!!

I have a snap shackle (adds about an inch to the stack height) for connecting to the boom and I still have to work my a.. off to get block to block.

Also, note that there are those that say adjusting the angle of the cleat is a major PIA. I wholeheartedly disagree. I was able to make the adjustment on the beach without much trouble at all. You do have to be careful, but it is not that bad.
