After years of buying used sails, I think I'm going to get some new ones! Now I know this is a Hobie forum all, but I was looking for other sailmakers that make a good sail. So my question is, Were can I get new sails from? I have a H16 and will need a main and jib, looking for a square top (I hear there cool, or are they?)

Hobie makes sails for all their boats. If you want to race your 16, you MUST have Hobie sails.

They have done square-toppers for 14's

Gary
Whirlwind sails used to make a pretty good aftermarket

I know a really good sail maker but out of respect for Hobie I won't mention them here. Feel free to send me an Email.

To look at a H17 Squaretop by Whirlwind, see my post "New Sails" in the H17 FX forum. 8)

Every winter we try to spend some time developing our business, and this winter we worked on developing our own line of sails. We are now working with a cutting edge loft building our own line of Surf City Racing sails. Our focus is ultra-modern designs utilizing both modern and proven sailcloths and fittings. We are building replacement sails that will fit a Hobie 16s that are outstanding quality, and priced right!:

We have patterns for our computer designed squaretops, high quality stock replacements that will last a long, long time, any type of cloth you want, spinnakers, jibs, whatever you want. We have built a couple of F-18 spinnakers out of AIRX 700 that have been getting outstanding reviews. We can build anything, and already have patterns for most cats...and monohulls;).

Pretty much every cloth available from any manufacturer:

Kevlar

Pentex

Will be posting more info on my site as things develop. For pricing call anytime.
We have an introductory price on H16 replacements here. I want to get the word out:

NOT CLASS LEGAL FOR RACING.

I like my Surf City Racing Sails. I have a Spin for non Hobie events and really like the quality and performance. For price and performance I haven't seen anything that can touch it.

Are you going to make pentex sails for the h16? I was going to get hobie sails to stay class legal but those things are sweet lookin!

Staying class legal will help retain the value of your boat in most cases, but we can make pretty much anything at this point and the quality is second to none.

I am the same boat(no pun intended). I have been in contact with whirlwind and Calvert sails. Whirlwind is owned by an old hobie sailmaker, and likes to make sails for beach cats. Calvert has a new load path technology, but I get a feeling they're more into larger boat sails. I probably go with Whirlwind since I have seen his sails(He pushes Pentex) I'm still researching.See my forum questions on 18sx sails Load pathvs. Pentex

I have bought number of new sails from Hobie over the last few years. A 14 main and a couple of 16 mains. Awesome sails, done in a timely manner.

I have also bought a number of sails from Chip at Whirlwind and he also does great work and has great customer service. When fixing up old 14s, I have put a few of his sails on them in the 'retro' designs and they look and work awesome.
