I didn't say that CG graphics weren't beautiful. But no matter how beautiful they may be, I still don't see them as true art.

OK, you woke me up

DAVID, THEM'S FIGHTING WORDS!!!

That's like saying writers don't really write "true works", or musicians don't create "true music", or engineers don't solve "true problems", or anyone for that matter, if they use a computer.

CGI or CG graphics or whatever you want to call them, are simply bigger, more powerful paintbrushes. The hardware and software certainly helps take the mondane out of it and lets one focus on the creative.

But the artist still has to create the work. There is much painting, sculpting, composing and animating (I suppose that's not art, either?).

There is no "create graphics" button on the keyboard that one magically presses. No, instead, this CGI software is incredibly complex and takes years to master.

Why are some CGI characters, environments, and graphic arts appealing and fun to watch while others suck wind????

The artist and his art. Plain and simple.

I guess you can tell that I am an artist by profession, and you pushed a button, there, dude! :D

Hey Sarge, I have been sailing out of Long Beach lately... the wind has been kick-a$$.

If you were sailing there, then, yes, it probably was me. I was out on the 5th.

Sometimes, I see other Hobies out there, but I go pretty far out (about a mile) where the wind is screaming. It funnels down alongside Palos Verdes and man oh man !!!! It's been a pretty consistent 20 - 25 knots every afternoon out there. A bit choppy, and some huge vessels that leave monstrous wakes, but that only makes it better!

You make me jealous :x Here in Louisiana, its 102 degrees, wind variable at 2mph - each day for the last month has been an exact clone. I may hook up with my H20 skipper after work today and get that sailing fix since it is only supposed to be a high of 93 degrees (which is somewhat tolerable). I'm doing a wind dance right now.

Actually, David, I've been launching across the street on the harbor side where it's FREE to park. There's a hose, a rinsing rack, and a spot to drive out on the beach to load/unload.

Then, I tack on up out the inlet.

I launch from Claremont which is directly across from Leeway Sailing where Corey is talking about. I learned to sail on the ocean side (15 - 30 kts winds with chop and 4' - 6' swells) during the winter so I know nothing else. I've never sailed on the bay side Corey because of the 5mph speed limit and all the tacking you have to do to get to the ocean although I like all the other provisions you referred to. However, I have launched my Kayak from there.

I won’t be sailing this week but I'm hoping to be there for the regatta (Multi-hull Invitational) next week. If I should see Corey there, he can straighten me out on my views on CG graphics.

is the SPI allowed since its an open class race right?

David. Do you need a crew for the race by any chance? I was gonna enter but i cant really afford the 50 dollar entry fee at this time (and i did absolutely horrible as skipper in the SD reggatta also. It was my first race tho). If you do need a crew i would be more than happy to pay half of the entry fee. It would be great tho to get on in a race with an experienced captian. I have been told i am a great crew member

There will be no SPIs allowed on H16s in this venue. Don't beat yourself up about your performance in Chula Vista. It takes "time on the water" to improve. Practice!!!

Yep, I already have a crew. But just because you're not going to race doesn't mean you can't sail. Rig your boat once and get 2 days of sailing in. You can leave your boat on the beach like we did in Chula Vista.
