Tiller recommendations / NY supplier?

Can anyone recommend a lightweight tiller (that can be used with a Hobie 16)? Looking to upgrade on my standard fit Hobie tiller (which I have split)

Will be in New York next week - are there any good suppliers of such tillers in NY?

Arriba Hot Sticks are all ways make good tillers, you can get them at your local hobie dealer. I would call first to make sure they have the right one in stock for when you get there.

NY City - is there a Hobie supplier anywhere downtown (ish) that might do an Arriba Hotstick (suitable for Hobie16)?

I'm not real impressed with the Arriba fiberglass tiller. The inner rod is hollow and fractures easily upon impact or excessive torque, both of which are fairly common with beach cats. I understand they make a carbon fiber unit which should be stronger.

I personally havn't had a Arriba fiberglass hot stick break ever, ive had at least 5 of them. Well one broke, but that was because the previous owned glued it so it was always extended, and I broke it trying to get the glue out. The most important thing is to wash them after your done sailing, to get all the sand out from in between the fiberglass parts.

This statement seems to contradict itself.

Multiple boats and / or losing them.

I've generally had good experiences with the Arriba sticks as well. I've broken two - both of which were my fault when I fell off the trapeze.

However, I almost always use the stock fiberglass tiller on all my boats. I just like the lighter weight and no moving parts. The only time I use an Arriba stick now is in very light air on the 17.

Matt is correct, multipal boats, and also having new ones (just in case) for nationals.
