Factory Support Staff - in China through Sept 1st

I leave for the Hobie 16 World Championships on Thursday August 5th. As many questions are directed to me personally, I wanted you all to know that I will be away from the Hobie Factory offices through the 1st of September. Several other Hobie admin personnel follow after one week.

While we strive to help as much as possible through our forums, your primary contact for support is always your local dealer. We will have Internet access, but timing will be later in the day and available time to respond will be reduced during this period.

The event is the 19th Hobie 16 World Championships in Weihai, China. We provide new boats for these events, so will be assembling 60 brand new Hobie 16s on site. We then maintain through 15 days of competition.

Follow our experience here: http://hobiechinaworlds.blogspot.com I will also post updates in the sailing/racing forum.

They're all pre-sold "in-country".

Looks like only 4 US teams for the Open. There are now 107 teams registered. This event was only announced in December, so most teams never had the time to plan for it. It just took too long to hammer out the details with the organizers I understand. There are now 107 teams registered.

Matt, on the way home, stop by for a "relaxing" sail in Hawaii! You can borrow the keys to my Red AI. 8)

25 Hours door to door... Made it. Beautiful BIG beach with REAL sand... (last event had man made beach). Warm (80ish) and humid but not bad. We will have some tents to work under. +9 hours from the West Coast (US).

Beautiful country... clean and modern. Not many english speakers in Weihai. They do Chinese and maybe some Russian. We have a few translators to help us get around.

We have arrived at the regatta site and are expecting our 5 40' containers of (60) new boats, parts and tools this morning (Monday here +9 from the West Coast).

We have a blog site started and intend to post daily text, images and video along the way. We are to have wireless on the beach, so should be able to keep it current.

Hobie Cat Company - Factory Report
The Factory Teams from Hobie Cat Australia and Hobie Cat USA are now on site to start the boat building process. The teams will build 60 identical Hobie Cat® 16's, for the 19th Hobie World Championships in Weihai China.

The containers are at the port and should arrive on the race site this Monday to start the boat building process. Hobie Cat Australasia's managing director, Steve Fields says; "This is an exciting time for us, to be able to prepare the boats for the sailors from around the world and to see a new Hobie Cat 16 World Champion crowned". Steve went on to say; "The city of Weihai, the Seaview Hotel staff and the China Worlds committee have been great to work with and they have gone out of their way to assist us with the running of the event at this early stage.

Hobie Cat USA's Matt Miller replied; "I must also say that the beach we are running the event from is perhaps the best beach we have had in many years! Like Steve, we look forward to running the event and seeing a new World Champion crowned."
