This is how it will probably happen. When the mast hits the water and the platform is over 90deg. It will tend to launch you forward. I always happen to land on the sail. This is my friend Steve. As you can see, he landed in back of the boat, away from the sail...He knows how much I charge him for new ones. His crew Bret did an awesome job of not going through the main, and sort of climbed down to the mast. It was blowing above 20, with a typical Santa Cruz sea state. Kick-Off 2009, last weekend.

Jeremy, post the results of the Kick Off so everyone can see how many of us got practice capsizing. I count 13 boats without a DNF next to their names out of 41 that started the only race able to be held on Saturday. You couldn't look at the course without seeing two or three capsized boats at once.

I find it interesting that during the entire sequence of pictures the skipper never attempted to pop the main or the jib.

Jeremy,

That's a great sequence of shots! How common is it for the crew to come down forward of the mast? Looks like a bad place to land. Masts are hard and it seems the diamond wires will just trip you up.

Thanks

Oh they tried alright. Sometimes the plan just doesn't work out. Respectable start though, if he could just keep the pointy end up
