The Pacific has skegs on the hulls...hard to see but it doesn't look like this boat has them

Ok, it looks like the answer is that it's a catamaran called the "Hobie 20 Formula" made by Hobie Europe. This is according to a close-up shot of the hull graphics.

finally...mystery solved. Why is it that Hobie Europe makes so many different boats compared to USA?

Unless the design has changed over years for the pacific. Gree, we still think you deserve a award though and that is "The having the most free time to spend on the internet award" :D I'm jealous.

Well done, and nice to learn about the H20 - Formula.
Now for the big question - how we get boats like that in North America?
Sail them across the Atlantic?

Good question. Last year we wanted to buy a boat (17') which was not sold in the US. Delivering the boat itself from UK was not a problem, but the length of the mast and freight associated with it simply shut down the whole idea - we could not afford it. So in my wild dreams I contemplated the idea of sailing it across Atlantic... even thought I'd get some media coverage and publicity which will help me cover the cost of the boat and perils of the journey... Am I getting carried away?

I guess this will be possible only if there will be mass shipment of boats like these. :-)

Well apparently it's because they shuffle the parts around between models and come up with new models. :o

Maybe if we got a huge group of us all together and bought cool boats from over there and then all sailed them back together. Maybe it would work!

Oh, I do spend alot of time online, so I can get to posts like this quick.

How many of you want a H20 formula? I'm taking deposits now!!

If you guys pay in full for 5 of any of those European boats that aren't offered here I'll swim them across the Atlantic myself with a tow line in my teeth.:D

Joking, but I think I'd be pretty safe on that. The "shipping" cost would be too much.

Find 7 of your friends that want them too. I fit 8 A-class into a 40'er nicely. You can't ship boats via a consolidator, they just get beat, even if they're crated :(

Hobie USA has Tigers coming over on container ships, couldn't they include whatever with the next shipment? I know when I needed a Fox hull they were going to be able to send it on the next ship. You may have to wait awhile but it seems possible. Maybe there is some contractual problem with Hobie Europe that prevents those boats from being sold in the US. It would seem that Hobie would import any glass boat that falls into a discontinued segment in US production ie 14, 17, 18 and 20 footers.

Just sent a container from MI to the Netherlands with 40,000 lbs of stuff in it for work. the cost was shockingly inexpensive. I'll look for the number.

Pure Ocean freight in a container, 20 ft or 40 ft, is fairly cheap.
Where they get us is the trans-shipment charges - on the boat crane fee, off the boat crane fee, stacking the container, putting it on a tractor trailer, transferring it to your yard/warehouse, demurrage while unloading, and the list goes on. Anyone else got experience with this?

Still, it should be possible to consolidate product and include it all in one shipment at reasonable cost. How much for a F-20, with wings and spin?
