If this gets serious, I bet I can get 3 or 4 boats down from Division 4 to make the trip!

Keep us in mind.

I really want to go but can't even consider it until '09 due to schedule and college kid expense outweighing sailing budget. Jeez, seems like I just finished paying off MY student loan, and now I am sending in dorm deposits for Alexander.
That would be totally fun to have a huge fleet heading over.

How about we do the catalina thing except in the Bahama's? When you finally reach Nassau, a cold drink, hot shower, and the company of an unfamiliar woman will probably finish off the best day of your life.

Karl, I am 15 years older than you. I'll need a Hot Drink, a COLD shower (due to the unfamiliar woman I wouldn't possibly even glance at, because the familiar woman can sense stuff like that.....) and probably 2 advil, and 12 hours of sleep and someone else to sail my boat home.

The greatest tradgedy of all is that the more I think about this the easier it becomes in my head. It's only 200 miles. only about a 120 or so are actually out of sight of land. The likely hood of having getting blown so far off course that you can't find it again is very slim. In good conditions making 12mph with the boat the middle leg would take about 9 hours. That's a long ass day, but not that bad. On the other hand if you are only making 5mph and have to go upwind it might take 30 hours. At which point you might have plenty of time to make peace with the world.

Going to Catalina with other boats sounds extremely fun, but it lacks the "good god, you did what!?, sailing a what?!" that going to Nassau has.

I don't think so really, that area off CA is super shark infested, huge shipping lanes, fairly mean winds from the NW and a pretty big swell. But really, you can't be serious thinking 9hours on your boat, byyourself, in the OCEAN, without seeing land.......that you're not gonna (censored) yourself and freak out and set fire to your boat hoping someone will see the smoke are you? I mean come on Karl, you're talking suicide. But if you do die, can I have your indash dvd player? That thing is awesome!

I'm not going alone. There will be two of us. I'll have to buy a jib kit I think also. It would be alot nicer if there is any reaching involved.

Oh, and if I die chris you can have the in dash DVD player. Make sure to grab the Playstation from under the back seat while your at it.

By the way a $1k dollar stereo in a $1500 Amigo will look a whole lot dumber than dying in the carribean on a beach cat.

Karl, the trip will be more comfortable if you can fit some wings to the boat. That's a long trip to be sitting on a flat tramp. Or maybe rig the adjustment lock on the trapeze lines to put you in a more seated position.

Karl, You will need to point south a lot as the Gulf Stream current will push you north by ?? a lot. The current runs strong 2-5 knots depending on the wind and waves. Any wind from any northerly direction will build steep waves in the area of the Gulf Stream current.

Any chance you can start further south and let the current help you?

BTW I would love to do it on my H-18 if the conditions were right but I'll start by crossing Lake Michigan first.

DVL- Would your wife agree to a flotilla? Maybe I should cross Lake Michigan first. Get a feel for the distance thing. I can make it to Chicago in 6 hours. Might be something to plan for this summer? I don't really care for stacking a 18 on my little fx but we could park one vehicle on one side and take off from the other and trailer them back.

Just a thought.

Now that makes sense boss, you were really starting to worry me. Safety in numbers sounds SMART. :D

Oddyseus; just do it... and slay a bullshark with nothing but a Swiss Army knife while you're at it. That would be badass.
