I hope some Michiganders out there might be able to help me.

I would like to get out on Lake Michigan with my HC14 but I am not sure what sort of safety equipment I am required to carry by law or Coast Guard regulations.

I am thinking of going to Weko Beach in Bridgeman, MI. Can anyone point me to a web site that has some information on the laws? I would not thinking of going out without a PFD, but I don't know if I need a VHF radio or flares or any other devices?
