Hurricanes suck

Tropical Storm Fay, for a week they were projecting a westward path,...125 miles to the west of me, and I planned accordingly... I should know better by now, but for some stupid reason I believed them. sigh...

The reason for the rant, is my Hobie...which I did strap down, secured the rudders and lowered the mast. However, I left the tramp on... which I now fear is going to act as a BIG %$^&*9 sail, if it doesn't shred apart first. What's worse is now they're predicting this POS storm is going to become a hurricane and boomerang back to the north of us. Which means we are not going to see an end to the 65+ mph winds until Thursday. I've already written off my boat ramps...I just hope the boat makes it through.

While this isn't funny, it is funny...I just had my neighbor from across the street (who owns two Super Cats) come over in the wind and rain to tell me my sail had blown loose. Well not really, it was just a blue tarp, but they they cared enough to let me know anyway.

As an added note...Barefoot Bay, 40 miles to the south of me has already been hit by a tornado, and the rest of us are still under a tornado watch, which also may not end until Thursday.

If I knew it was going to last this long, I'd bought another bottle of tequlia...

I spent last night auguring hurricane tie downs into the shell based lot at the sailing squadron in Sarasota. I thought about dropping the mast and pulling the tramp but by then Faye had turned east and I figured it would die inland someplace. We didn't even get any rain!

Now it looks like it is turning back towards the West but I think we dodged a bullet over here again. I just hope we get some good wind this weekend.

What? By stocking up on parts to get all the storm damaged boats back on the water?

Well it stalled out last night just south of us, and then moved. The eye is now over me as I write this. My pool which I emptied to do some work has over 12" of rain water in it. Suprisingly my boat ramps are still there and the boat itself seems to be OK.

The bad news is I have standing water in the front yard...over the septic field...and the toilets won't flush

Yeah, I'd say the Sarasota area dodged the bullet. Not to wish this on anyone, but couldn't you all use the rain over there?! Hopefully by the time Fay reaches the pan handle, it'll just be a rain event. It has been producing quite a few waterspouts off shore though.

I wish I lived somewhere warm enough for long enough to justify a pool

If anybody needs a surf report for NE Florida it's currently 10 -14 feet, wind ENE 35-40 Knots and more on the way. We dodged the Hurricane bullet but some evil looking squall lines and nasty rain has already hit us hard.

Since NOAA painted the bullseye on Jacksonville last night, the big question the past 24 hours was do we board the windows or not. It was a close call but we decided not to as this morning's forecast was for winds not expected to exceed 50 knots. Now, if Fay spins up again we are sort of screwed as handling sheets of plywood in over 40 knots is almost as dangerous as glass flying around. TS Fay is not cranking as hard as it was, but it's gonna dump a bunch of rain on us by the time she heads to Tallahassee.

The seaweed hits the fan tomorrow. Looks like I'll be taking out the submarine this weekend.

Winds are forecast to be 30kts when she passes north of us, not too bad.

The winds gusts are the scary part. I used to have a tarp over part of my Hobie, but it's shredded now. The biggest thing is the #$%^&* RAIN. The storm has stalled out and I'm now up to well over 24 inches. Another 12 inches and I'm in BIG trouble. Why couldn't this storm stall out over Atlanta where they need the rain???!!!

Oh, one more thing...you can forget about the forecasts. They haven't gotten it right yet! If they keep guessing long enough I suppose they eventually may get it...

You shouldn't be too worried about 65 mph winds. We normally see 60, 70 even 80 mph or greater winds across the boats with no issues. Of course it all depends on how much foot you have in your gas pedal
