newbie, sort of

hi, new to the forum. it's been a few years since i have sailed and am wondering what is a good intro cat that is decently priced. i am in iraq at the moment but am planning on getting back into sailing upon my return. i would love to pick something up in the oklahoma texas area. any help would be sweey.

Which cat is right for you depends on what you want to do with it and how much money you have to spend. If your budget is less than $4K then your best choice will likely be a used Hobie 16. THere are lots of them out there and they are a good value if you are careful about which one you buy. If you have more than $4K there are some other choices you can consider.

I like in the Dallas area and I found that Craiglist seemed to have the be collection of choices. Here's the link to the Hobie's in the Dallas area but you should try other large cities like OKC, Austin and Houston as well.

A Hobie 17 or 18 might a good choice as well, depending on how much expience you have sailing cats. Sailing cats is different than sailing monohulls. Since both the 17's and 18's have daggerboards they are not the easiest boats to start on.
