I recently purchased an H17 "project boat". Included in my big box of parts that came with the disassembled boat is a sail that is ripped, very dirty, and covered with mold. Is there a preferred way to dispose of this sail, or is cutting it up and throwing it out in the garbage ok?

Save it for a source of patching material. What colors? I may want it.

Well, that is a cool way to use old sails, but I doubt anyone would want a bag made out of this one. Also, I did start cutting it up because I couldn't see any other way to get the boomlet off of it. Here is a photo. It is a very camera-friendly sail color though. It looks much worse in person.

You have to take one of the end caps off the boomlet to get it off (drill out two rivets).

Even if you cut the sail off, the bolt rope is still in the boomlet.
