I had just stowed away the sails for the winter and given up on the season. Then came yesterday, unusually warm 72 degrees with 10-20 mph winds so I decided to pull out the sheets and have another go.

Only dang boat on the lake, not a leaf left on the trees, the sun hovering low on the horizon and I'm flying across Lake Calhoun as if it were July. What a blast it was. Managed to keep the cloth in the sky and avoid an unwelcomed dip in the frigid water.

It was a great day...November sail in Minny, never thought I'd see the day!

For the first the ever I sailed in November here in Thunder Bay.Actually was quite enjoyable, except for the thin layer of ice on the edge of the lake.

I'll bet that thin layer of ice goes a long way in preventing pitchpoling. I'm thinking about having a go in December...10 of 12 months sailing gotta be some kind of record around these parts. =)

I snuck out of work at 3:00 today (Nov 6th), and went for a GREAT sail. 70 degrees, 10-15 winds with occasional gusts making whitecaps. I did break down and put on the shorty wetsuit this time, since I knew I'd get sprayed and may go for a swim.

The Wave skittered across the lake, leaving a nice wake and lifting a hull once in a while. Better wind than the summer ever saw! :D

An old friend came up to me on his jet-ski, and said I was his hero! He thought he was being really cool going out on the water this late in the year, but he said I was braver than him, being on a little sailboat.

Unfortunately, rain is forecast to come in tonight, followed by much colder air. Bummer!

The water in the Geist Reservoir is pretty cool, but not terribly cold. I was glad to have a pair of dry shoes waiting for me on the shore!

My sailing club has a weather station, but it only shows air temp, not water temp. The club buttoned up for the winter last Saturday.

I'll have to take a pool thermometer if I go out again.
