Hey,
Has anyone sailed from oceanside harbor. I'm spending a week at the condos to the south of the harbor this summer and was thinking about taking my Hobie 16. Just curious if its a good place to sail and if the parking lot is safe to leave the boat overnight. It would be nice to leave it rigged on the trailer. It looks like its an easy shot from the ramp area into the ocean and beach areas. They have Capri 14 rentals but I'm sure they make you stay in the harbor. Any info would be great.
Thanks
Steve

Are you staying a 999 N Pacific...North Coast Village or the Agean? Or are you down on The Strand at St. Malo? Send me a note to [email protected] . I worked at the harbor for about 28 years and may be able to answer some of your questions.

Rick's the goto guy on this, not many dudes know o-side better than him. I had a boat in Oceanside Harbor for 10 years and did a lot of racing out there. It's kind of light for my taste, but you'll get some breeze. Watch out if there's a large swell, the harbor mouth can break. And watch out for the submerged jetty it's well marked, but people hit it all the time. You should clear most of the time on any Hobie regardless.

What ever you do watch out for the Harbor Patrol out there  Also, avoid Del Mar Marina on Camp Pendleton. I was on base in the late 90's and I hear things have changed since 2001. They're not as forgiving about stray boats as they were before 9-11.

Have fun! Great spot.
