halyard stop sleeve

Hi,

I step my H-14 (non-comptip) mast solo and use the main halyard as a temporary forestay (before I connect the real forestay to the bridles).

I've noticed the halyard is very old, possibly original, and one wire is snapped, so I want to swap it out before my mast comes crashing down during the stepping process.

I swaged all my standing rigging myself using the "HobieCatWireGuide" for the official lengths (most of the ones my Cat came with were wrong length and old). My father in-law is a racing yacht owner so he has all the gear.

So I want to replace the main halyard but I'm unsure what to use as the ball stop. Can a standard 3/32" swage do the same trick, has anyone tried this or is this a generic piece of rigging I can find at any good sailing store? If it's the latter then what's the correct name for this piece, I've searched for 'ball shank' on my sailing store's website but nothing came up?

They're called "stop sleeves" and available from any marine hardware store:

Thanks for that. So far I can only find these on American websites not Aussie ones. Maybe they are called something else here. A bit odd that I can't find them, Australia is boating crazy so you'd think the shops would have every piece of kit.

The "Ball Stop" is a little different. It is actually a ball for the end of the wire at the shackle.

The stop sleeve goes at the halyard lock point.

Ask for a Swage "Ball Stop" or Swage Stop Sleeve.

Well after a few weeks of searching I can't find these anywhere. I looked for stop sleeves, stop swages, and round swages, in online stores and in normal stores. 2 stores in Australia had something close but turned out it only had one hole so only fits on the end.

Very strange considering Australia is boating mad, and I'm in Sydney, not some outback sheep station. If only they'd send them in envelope via normal mail instead of FedEx for $40, otherwise I'd get them from the US.

So 2 options.

Try an alternative like a small standard swage or fishing line sinker. (anyone tried any of these)
Buy 1 single one from the local Hobie dealer for $10 and probably have to wait for it to be delivered from US.

It's kind of against my principles really to pay $10 or more for a piece that costs 50 cents.

Murrays marine has them.

Since when is Murray's in Oz? He just said he doesn't want to pay $10-$40 to ship something from the US that costs $0.50

Wow I just checked it would cost less than 2 bucks to pop a couple in an envelope and send to aus. from california. Steve at murrays has the part and I am sure he would send it. Ever think of that?
