Comptip it's own sealed unit?

I have a bit of water dripping out my comptip (H17) where the pulley attaches. This is ofcourse when the mast is upside down somewhat. Mast feels light and I hear no water sloshing around which begs the question if it is sealed on its own and the alum section is sealed independently via the comptip. It'll help me decide how to drain/fix it.

The Comptip is its own sealed unit.

The best way to drain it is to drill two small (3/16") holes about 8" down from the tip. 1 hole acts as a vent. You can speed up the drainage by blowing into one of the holes. A bit of Marine Tex will seal the holes, or you can put a piece of black duct tape over them for a temporary fix.

The comp tip should be sealed, but Hobie, for some unknown reason ($$$$$), elected not to use rivet casings on the 6 rivets connecting the hook to the top of the tip. I know this because I used to get water in my comp tip also. I noticed the water was coming out of the center of two of the rivets. I drilled out all 6 rivets and replaced them with 6 new ones with casings. Problem solved. Too bad Hobie cheeped out and didn't do it.

That's a pretty bold assumption - and almost certainly wrong about the $ part. Who pissed in your Wheaties this morning?

BTW, it's "rivet", not "rivit", "coming", not "comming" and "cheaped", not "cheeped".

I may change out the rivets but good to know in any event. Is the pulley part usually sealed well or is there something I can do to seal that up? I have no complaints with Hobie on that, sometimes products are not perfect.

Mbounds - you must have won all the spelling Beeeeeees (intentionally miss spelled). Your mom must be proud. There was no assumption about there not being any rivEt casings, they weren't there, period. And yes, Hobie Cat has dropped the ball several times over the years.
