I'm proud to annouce that a small band of 11 Hobie sailors down here in Shreveport/Bossier City, La, have reactivated Hobie Fleet 401 as a Division 14 fleet. Fleet membership includes 3 H20s, 5 H16s and 1 H14. Our home port is the Shreveport Yacht Club on Cross Lake. Our mission is to promote Hobie sailing and sailing in general, offer a mix of racing and recreational activities and support the SYC's robust youth program. We'll do this by offering our members and guests opportunities to have fun on Hobies!

Our first event will piggyback onto the SYC's annual Holiday-in-Dixie Regatta on the weekend of April 30 - May 1 and will include a Division 14 points regatta for Hobie 18s, provided five show up. All other classes are welcome. We're only offering points to the 18s because we want to minimize conflict with the previously scheduled Daggerless regatta in Oklahoma City. Seveal 20 sailors also sail 16s, so we're not offering points for 20s either. Nevertheless, if you're not planning to go to the Daggerless, think about coming to Shreveport to help us kick-off Fleet 401's inaugural event. Five boats makes a class and they'll get their own start. This should be a good tuneup for you H18 sailors prior to the NACs in June. I'll post a link to our NOR after we update the website.

Fleet 401 looks forward to hosting you at our club and visiting you at yours!

SplashTX,

One of the ideas that we are kicking around for a fleet activity is taking a road trip this summer to a beach to do some sailing. Recreational or racing, it really doesn't matter. It's always fun to sail with other Hobies. Probably July or August will be the best time for us since the wind doesn't blow much here during late summer. Surfside looks great! Mapquest says it's only 299 miles from here. Any good lodging near 10 Mile? During my teens I used to sail my H16 at Jamaica Beach, not far down the road from you guys. There was a fleet, maybe it was Fleet 33, that used to sponsor a regatta there called "Wayward Winds". It was a blast. 70-80 Hobies on the beach. I'd love to come back down.

The Wayward Winds Regatta I believe is hosted by the Texas City Dike Yacht Club. This year it will be 4/30 - 5/1

Visit www.TCDYC.com for details on the next one. I often sail over there too.

Probably Galveston would be the closest good lodging or Free Port / Lake Jackson. I'm not even sure if there is a motel in Surfside.

Mike

This place http://www.pointewestgalveston.com is really close to 10 mile its on the Galveston side of the San Luis Pass we stayed here last year it was awesome I want to go back!!! If you guys book something let me know its close to 10 Mile and there is a great public beach next to it to unload your boat. You cannot drive on the resort beach but I just launched from the public beach sailed over and use my beach wheels to pull the boat by the dunes by our beach house at night furled my jib drop the main. Its on the far west end so its a 20 minute drive back to the main part of Galveston but its worth it!!
