I have just acquired a Hobie Cat with a history. It washed ashore at a upscale resort in the Florida Keys & from the spanish decals I assume it was used by Cuban refugees to cross from Cuba to the US. My problem is that I don't know what model of Hobie it is! It is 16 foot long, built from GRP, equipped with jib & main, an integrated main traveler, a pivoting mast & trapeze wires. It does not have the distinctive banana shaped asymmetric hulls or the raised trampoline of the typical Hobie 16. The serial number reads B.HCE00040L003, at least thats the closest I can make out. It's not the easiest thing to read lying on the dock with your head hanging upside down just above the water. I sailed it from where I got it from 15 miles between mangrove islands & grass flats up one side of an island & down the other fighting strong tides against us both sides. It was avery interesting 6 or 7 hours especially as it has been 40 some years since I last sailed a small boat, so I now feel an attachment for her & would like to restore her to her former glory. Any help any members could give me on identifying which model she is & where to get parts for her would be greatly appreciated

Thanking you in advance
Capt. B.!

Google pictures for a Hobie 15 and see if it looks like that. Or try the link below.

if the trampoline is integral with the hulls (and not raised like a H16), what you have is Hobie 15 out of Europe.
Nice boat, high volume hulls, pretty good performance.
You might have fun getting parts though.

enjoy

Thanks Guys! It does indeed appear to be a Hobie 15 out of Europe. Mine has an aluminum boom with a 6-1 block a la 16 but other than that it looks identical to the online pictures of the 15. It seems the rudder mechanisms need a lot of attention but unless I'm mistaken they appear to be identical to the 14/16 system. Apart from that all other repairs will be fiber glass repairs & canvas, so i should be able to get her bristol fashion in short order.
Thanks again for your input gentlemen.
