Those fires are getting dangerously close to the Factory in Oceanside! And
I just saw Lake Forest on Fox News as a hot spot (Roger Brown, 16 sailor, lives there)

The boss just talked to Jeff... Sounds like the factory is OK. They're back to being "open", though a bunch of employees may be out.

Hobie Tiger sailor Scott Miller and his wife Pattie lost their home and boat in the Ramona fires.

Huh? Order parts from Europe or Australia? No.

No, orders are through Hobie US. All parts are either built here or stocked here. Yes, the Tiger and Fx One are built in Europe, but parts are stocked and ordered here in the US. All parts for the 14 are built in the US... only the 16 hulls are built in Australia. All the metal, tramps and sails are built in Oceanside, California. Everything for the Bravo, Wave and Getaway are built here. All the kayaks are built here. Yes... we build boats here. We supply everything to Australia outside the actual fiberglass cloth and resins. We also supply all of the Bravo, Wave, Getaway components to Hobie Cat France as well as all of the Kayaks being sold there. Hobie Cat Europe does mold a couple of the paddle versions over there.

So... would it be a problem if the factory were to burn here? Sure would.

I just got back from the Fire Zone down there in SoCal. My parents live there. I can tell you, the whole area is a complete disaster. Hundreds of miles from the actual fires there is ash everywhere. They almost closed schools today inland due to the smoke.

Though it wasn't reported much, a day before the fires there were 100 MPH gusts blasting the inland empire. My parents lost their fence and a tree. Down the street a huge pine fell on a families house. I snapped a few pix, I'll post later. Scary stuff to see in person.

Props to the firefighters, they pretty much kick #@*!!! We should all go to our local fire station and give them a big thanks!
