I get so jealous hearing people talk about weekly races. I know our lake (Lake Lanier) has about as much water as a swimming pool right now, but I would kill to bring this fleet back into action. 10 years ago I've been told there were like 60 boats actively sailing here. Where the @#$@ did everyone go? It doesn't even have to be a Hobie fleet; just getting enough boats together to race more frequently would be nice...

I feel your pain we are also going through a rebuilding process. hang in there, and do not give up. Its going to take some time and your going to have to hold regular get togethers, even if it's only with one of 2 boats. We started about a year ago with 2 H16's at the races, last time we had 7 show and 6 race. So it's slowly getting there. We also started a local sailing site www.panamacitysailingclub.com and that seems to have brought a few new people to the table. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Thanks for the support. I know there is a site up for this division but it hasn't been updated since 2003-2004 or something. Anyone know what I have to do to take over control of this site..or should I just start a new one?

Loyd Graves from Raleigh is the Division 9 Chairman of record - but my records show he's not a 2007 member of the HCA.

He doesn't participate in HCA Board of Directors votes (all Division Chairs are members of the HCA Board).

I'm pretty sure it's one of those cases where "whoever wants this job can have it!"

Try contacting him at loydgraves(at)mindspring.com

Div 9 pulled away when HCA passed the ruling on sanctioned racing for Hobies only. I sail in the area. They are now functioning as Eastern Multi-hull Sailing Association and have a site up EMSA-sailing.org. Few if any in this area belong to HCA. All regattas are open to any and all cats, never Hobie only. If memory serves there were 3 races on Lanier this season. And the east coast grandaddy, Spring Fever, on Hartwell in Ga.

I don't think it's so much Division 9 I'm looking for, but Fleet 12 which was the Atlanta fleet. The races on Lanier I can think of were held by Lake Lanier Sailing Club where they just made them open to all boats, but LLSC doesn't have a multihull fleet other than a few trimarans. I'm just looking to find more of a multihull fleet that can get together more often. I know there are plenty of people around..just need to get organized.

HCA Division 9 did not "pull away" - they appropriately re-named themselves since they were an open catamaran class organization.

That does not preclude individuals from taking over the Division 9 Chairman's role (just need to be an HCA member), nor does it preclude them from starting a Hobie fleet if they want to. A Hobie Fleet can be a part of a larger organization (like a yacht club).

Unfortunately, the Hobie sailors in Division 9 have abdicated their right to representation in the HCA by not participating in the HCA's governance.

The last contact we have for Fleet 12 is:

Tammy Duran
5432 Hidden Harbor Lndg
Gainesville, GA 30504-8101
(770) 531-0397

(address & phone # are from whitepages.com)

She can get you pointed in the right direction. I stayed at their house about 14 years ago when I went to the "Gone With the Wind" regatta on Lake Lanier. Nice people.

BLR

You might try contacting Mike Krantz ([email protected]) he is a member of LLSC and sails in most of the wednesday night races. He is always trying to get more muilti hulls on the line.

Matt

Tammy puts on the Cinco de Mayo regatta at LLSC which is open to all cats.

Tammy and Joey are family friends from wayy back, you're right they are good people.

I've sailed actually sailed around those wed. night races once or twice, keeping my distance just watching what was going on. If there's interest in getting some catamarans on the line I'll be sure to follow up with that...but if it's the case a LLSC membership is required to participate that would most likely be a problem. I wonder what all the big monohaul sailors would think about a little catamaran tearing through their course

Thanks for the heads up

I'm in the Atlanta area and would love to have some fellow cat sailors to sail/race with. I spend most of my time on Lanier as well, just sailed there a week and a half ago. Hit me up if you are in the ATL and let's see if we can get something going.

Thanks

Do you keep your boat at the lake? Early next year I'm going to try and get a group together to set the boats back up and go out for a bit to help get everything tuned properly.

Where are you in school?

What does it take to start a fleet? From what I have gathered my closest fleet is Fleet 100. But, it seems as though this fleet isn't very active at all. I can't recall recieving a single e-mail since I joined the mailing list. Just an out of curiosity kind of question.

BLR_0719- I keep my boat in my driveway in Smyrna. I have no access to the lake except for public ramps. I attend Georgia Perimeter/Dunwoody but I will transfer to UGA or GSU next fall.

I'm up for setting up the boats next spring but I don't know if I am going to winterize mine this year. Last year I sailed Lanier through December and I'd like to take the boat to Tybee sometime soon. It really depends on the amount of rain we get though.

Is your boat on Lanier or do you trailer?
