Hobie rentals in Oahu

The wife and I are taking a winter break in Hawaii for a few days this month (one of the few perks of being in the travel industry!) Does anyone know of anyplace to rent beach cats on Oahu? We are having zero luck looking online! Plenty of kite surfing, wind surfing, surfing surfing, and kayaks, but no cats. Anyone have any local knowledge? Thanks in advance!

Your best bet is the hotels. If they do rent it'll probably be a Wave.

If you get stumped, look up the sailors at the Kokokahi Sailing club. They have an epic location right in front of the YWCA in Kaneoe Bay. They don't rent boats or anything, but they are always willing to race and need crew. Sailing Kaneoe is an incredible experience that you won't ever forget. Warm water, 25kt+ wind, and the Aloha spirit are there in full force.

And for a little Hobie history, just down the coast is where Dean Frume and the boys did their classic "Daggerboard Surfing" in the movie 'Sharing the Wind'. You can also see the sandspit that they sailed over.

If you're into Hobie history, Oahu has a lot to offer. Before you go watch the movie Of Wind and Waves about Woody Brown. It's a classic tale of a full-on, lifelong adventurer. You'll see where Hobie got his idea.

If you stop in at Windward Boats, in Kailua, you can get more info. They are a Hobie Dealer, but now are mostly into power boats. Dean Froome is still at Windward Boats, and tell you more on how he a John made the Hobie 18 video.

Thanks for all of the ideas. We are departing bright and early tomorrow morning and should be in HNL around 2:30 in the afternoon. Our friends live in Waianae, but we should be able to make it over to Kokokahi and Kailua for a day trip. We will keep you posted on what we find. Thanks again! Aloha
