Ever notice how skiers always know exactly how many days they skied last year?

I've never figured out how many days I sail each year but I'm going to give it a shot this year.

Only six days for me so far this year. How about you?

Three sailing; four on RC duty - so far.

That's about to change drastically - the season is just starting.

Let me see now, Jan 3 off Delray Beach (Getaway), Jan 5 off Palm Beach Shores (Wave), and then back to Ottawa, Canada, and a winter of over 14 feet of snow.

However, today was gorgeous, warm, 3/8ths cloud, and best of all, it was Opening Day at the Kanata Sailing Club. Greeting old friends, making new ones, assembling boats, cursing at fingers that won't open ring-dings, a couple of oat soda's, chili for lunch, what could be better?

Sailing today? I don't think so, water temp is still around 49F, and that is serious hypothermia water. Under 3 minutes survival time, even with a wetsuit. We will be brave around mid-May, in suitable conditions, and see if we can break 30 days of sailing before frost time rolls around again.

Mmmm, shrouds, anchor pins, Hobie Bob bearings, what other replacement parts do I need to order? Hello, is that Fogh Marine?......

later

One

Got three races in this morning (dead calm yesterday) at Frayed Knot regatta at Clinton Lake, Kansas. With 45 degree air and 55 degree water temps, needless to say, not everyone raced. A few our Division 7 friends drove out of a snow storm coming down on Friday.

4 days for me. The first was the day I did a demo of the Bravo in Clearwater. Then after purchasing my own Bravo, 3 days in Ft. Myers Beach. Now back in Cincinnati I am waiting for it to get a bit warmer.

More than a dozen already, including 2 for racing with the club monos. Basically every day it has been above 60 degrees, I head straight to the lake after work. Most days, I've had the lake to myself, except for the bass boats. Occasionally a keelboat or two will be out with me. The water is finally warm enough that the splashes aren't shocking, and my feet don't get cold when launching. Now the issue is getting enough wind to really move! Last Friday was howling, and I was the only boat on the water. :D Oh, and that doesn't count the 10 days or so in Florida in February.

<Grin> Can I count the 30 days sailing from Grenada to Ft Lauderdale on a 42' Cat? (Glad I didn't try that trip on a beachcat)

I'll be lucky to get a total of 7 days (counting weekend trips to the lake) this entire year with gas going up to $4.00/gal
