paddle storage

I need (some time depending on the wind direction) to paddle in or out of the marina where I keep my H18 with wings. So far I have been storing the paddles across the font of the tramp tucked under the hiking straps. This is less then ideal.

I was wondering if anyone has a better solution for paddle storage keeping in mind that sometimes I need to get at them fairly quick as the "harbor" is tight and the boats I would hit cost more then I would like to pay for repairs.

I have seen some pictures from afar of paddle along the boom but I could not make out any detail of how they were attached.

Any suggestions?

If you are always running the wings I would put the paddle in the lacing beneath the wing tramps. Keeps it out of the water and easy access.

Yeah I have mine in the back of the tramp, on the lacing, with 2 velcro straps..A quick grab and rip frees it.
Sometimes the rope to the traveller gets caught on the paddle, when I come about, but that adds to the excitment..

No idea if the 18 has a striker or not, but I bungee mine to the dolphin striker on my 16.

Several Observations/Possiblities ...

1) Lashing to the Tramp ... I have done that ..... possible problems ... tends to be in the way ... catchs sheetlines .... on H18's I have had a wave "smack" the underside of the tramp so hard that the paddle's shaft was broken in two

2) Storage on the boom: my friend stores his on the boom buy sliding it in from the aft end into the "boom beckets" ... he had to modify the paddle's handle to fit inside the beckets ... I think he bought a long handle paddle and cut-off the "T-Handle" portion and installed a tie-string that he ties around the boom in front of a becket to keep it in place.

3) You can purchase a "collapsible" paddle and store it in a tramp bag tied to the tramp as I do on my P19

4) For a H18 MAG ... I shove two nice long handle paddles into the lacings on the underside of my Magnum Wings (not SX) ... one on each side shoved in from the front so as the handle is just sticking out of the lacings on the underside... I can pull them out in just a few seconds .... when I have a long paddle to do w/ someone who knows how to paddle, I lock up the rudders and we start paddling .... if I have a short distance or someone who can't paddle .... I paddle and have them steer .... the Magnum wings make great backrests ... just sit on the deck in front of the crossbar ... make sure you buy paddles w/ long enough shafts so you can paddle efficently.

Sculling with the rudders unlocked is very effective in close quarters.

They are also GREAT launching platforms for when you pitchpole a H18Magnum when trapped out .... you go HIGH up in the air ..... and impress all the monomarans ....."look at the flying Walenda's" ....
