What kind of line to use for relacing my tramp?

First of all thank you ScotSailor and Jman for your previous help.


About my tramp!!

The line looks like it is very worn and I am thinking about relacing. If I buy a new tramp does it come with lacing? If not how much should I spend on lacing and what diameter kind of line should I buy etc etc? I just replaced the cams in between rain this past Sunday, and they were fastened with rivets making me think that alot of the boat is still original. I also was not sure of the age, but the boat is an '84 model. Also replaced the bungee between the jib cars this past weekend. I was told to buy five feet of bungee, but after looking at it and having my Dad look at it we trimmed some of the bungee so that it is not too loose.

Where should I look for hardware to update my jib sheet and traveler system? What diameter lines etc should I use. I forgot to look, because of family time and rain, but I think I am missing my jib halyard and the blocks for it. I replaced a lot of standing rigging originally, but I am going to order everything that I need for the boat this week, and hopefully be on the water by the end of the weekend.

Is it ok to sail with my epo rudders having a few visible fibers? I am thinking I will refinish them this fall.

I used black from Lowes - VERY PLEASED with it. MAke sure it has black core. I hate it when the white shows through. I laced up one boat with new tramp - then just did a 2nd with same stuff. It has worked VERY WELL. One was laced before with white (gets DIRTY) and the other was black bungee (HATED IT) and it frayed... and the white showed through.

I don't recall the diameter. But we were able to get (WITH EFFORT) 3 passes of it through the last grommets for the final tie off. Seems like it was 80 cents a foot.

Year later STILL love the stuff from Lowes (previous post)
Still tight (hasn't stretched) still black - no wear - now going to used it on my newer (3rd 16). As I'm thrilled with this stuff.

My Lowes here in PA mostly only carries nylon- like derby braid- and mostly in sizes >3/8". Is that what you are describing?
If Lowes carried decent polyester braid line- for a decent price- I'd be thrilled but the only non-nylon (or non-polypropylene) rope mine carries in 1/4" is really bad white/red polyester which turns into stone after about a few weeks in the sun. I don't even like using it for halyards!

I got mine from West Marine. It has a breaking strength of like 4000+ lbs which is kind of amazing to me because it's so small diameter, but anyway it allows me to lace it the way I do. XIXIXIXIX
