This clip isn't very clear on YouTube, and it was originally set to music, before I realized that I can't post that audio file to YouTube without getting in a bit of trouble for a copyright infringement...

So basically, it's much more boring then what it started out as. But when I was shopping for my Adventure Island, I remember loving any video that had an Adventure Island in it, so maybe someone will still find this enjoyable.

My advice, blast your favourite song while you're watching this!

Compare the video to the picture below... THAT'S VERSATILITY! What a boat!

Boring, what do you mean boring ? You're selling it a bit short augaug. That's an excellent clip. In fact I had Kiss's Detriot Rock City cranked up while watching it.
Just remember the words of a famous AI's sailor - Spend the money on a great PFD then go out and sail like you're gonna need it!!!

Where abouts is it, and how did you have your camera setup ?

This is in Toronto, Ontario. (Canada) I live a short walk from Lake Ontario, so I take my boat out as often as possible on the lake. It's getting a bit cool here now, but today was a great day. I finished work at noon, and off I went!

Uh... camera set up... funny you should ask. It's probably not something I'd recommend. :)

I'm actually holding the camera in one hand, the sail in the other, and steering with my toes in all of these clips. I couldn't catch some of the fastest runs of the day, because I simply needed to hang on! I trimmed a few clips where I left the camera running, but had it dangling from my life vest on a tether. In the end I had about 4 minutes of useable clips.

Mate, I loved the vid, even without sound! I just love watching the spray fly off the bows of the hulls when pushing the Islands. And I think the best time I've had so far on my TI was having the chop wash clean over the bow and filling the cockpit, in a good stiff wind. 8)

awesome video, looks like your making good use of your tramps. Have you had any capsizes or near capsizes with them? I'm considering buying some or maybe getting some made but using a netting so i can camp on them but not worry about gusts knocking me over when i'm not.

A lot of people talk about this risk of capsize, and I've never felt like I had any authority on the subject, but after posting this video, it's safe to say that I use them, and I enjoy them. I have had absolutely no concerns with capsizing with these tramps. I understand the fear, but I tend to sit up on them whenever the winds are anything over gentle gusts. I suppose if you stay in the middle of the boat when you have the tramps on, there's slightly more risk, but I think with tramps on, you'll notice that you'll be up on them a lot more then you might think. You end up sailing the AI like a regular sailboat with your feet in the middle and your butt up on the tramps. If you do this, you've dramatically decreased your chances of capsizing.

For me, I really don't worry about capsizing at all. I feel MUCH safer with the tramps ON then without because I have the option to climb up on the tramp to keep the boat level.

As far as making your own, I suppose you could, but why? For me, the risk of capsize is so small, that to make tramps on your own, and not go with Hobie tramps, seems like a waste. Hobie's been making quality trampolines for decades, I'd rather know that I have that kind of experience making my trampolines.

To each his own, but I can tell you from my experience that once you have the tramps, you'll sail the boat differently, and you'll feel just as safe as you always have. If you don't like them, you can always wrap them up on the front ama even while you're underway. Then you're back to the same AI that you're used to.

thanks for your reply. I wouldn't be making them myself, but would get the professionally done. My main concern is sailing in big swell, where i would like to be able to sit out on a tramp but if needed be able to jump back in the boat quickly without worrying about a capsize.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it, as I've been able to deal with big swells and high winds without coming close to a risk of capsizing, but if you do choose to get your own made, I'd like to see what you end up going with, and also to know the costs associated with making your own.

Either way, sailing with tramps is a lot of fun and really changes the character of the boat.

I am just about finished making my own trampolines and a matching spray skirt. I just ordered the plastic buckles which is all I need to finish the job.

My materilas cost me about $150-$175 but I orderd enough to make a set of trampolines and two sets of spray skirts. I am using black trampoline material from www.sailrite.com. Actually once I started cutting things out I ended up with enough material for 3 sets of spray skirts and one set of trampolines.

To be fair my wife already had a grommet setting tool, a snap setting tool, and a sewing machine that is rated to sew through 6 layers of leather.

I'll post pictures once the project is complete and installed. Unless they look like sh&^&, then I'll just fade into the night.

looking forward to see your trampolines and the skirts... I´m also making mines. I´d like to know wich specific fabric you used. Here in the Canary Island (Spain) hobie products are extremely expensive. The trampolines are around 600$, that´s around 400€...
