I sailed a Hobie 16 back in the '70s and '80s on the Great Lakes, Malibu, San Felipe, Ft. Pierce, Nova Scotia, etc. Wherever I went, my boat followed.
I now live in Victoria, BC where warm water sailing is hard to come by and no longer own a Hobie. Does anyone have any tips on where I might find a hot (Mexico, Florida, etc.) February vacation where I can sail a 16? An all inclusive would be awesome but not compulsory. I don't want to have to wear a wetsuit but I still have my 'butt bucket' and would love to use it! Dermot.

I live in MN and vacation in Playa Del Carmen Mexico most winters. There are two options I usually see. One, a resort may have a nice kept up 16 but you will need to do some digging. Most of the Hobie Cats resorts now seem to have are the wimpy rotomolded cats like the Wave, so make sure you get pictures or at least the models of the cats they claim to have. Second, are individual renting shops, sometimes they do dive tours as well. Most of the 16s these places will have are pretty used up, but every now and then you see a 16 or 16 equivalent (fiberglass constructed) cat that is in good condition. This will take a little more research to find out shops and getting their inventory though. I have to say in my 20 years going south of the boarder the 16 has become more rare, you used to see them lining the beaches, now you may see a couple lining a 3 mile stretch of beach. The 1970's, 80's, and even the 90's had more volume of the fiberglass cat sales, they are still there you just have to look for them.

If you ever make it to Antigua, on the northwest side of the island there is a "tradewinds" hotel....run by tradewinds charter company.

VERY nice hotel, and all inclusive is watersports, including Lasers, windsurfers, hobie 15's, hobie 16 SPI's, Vanguard 15s and others.....

i forgot what the name is, i can look it up if need be
