I'm not sure what is the exact difference in the size of the amas but I would guess the TI amas are almost twice as large as the AI's.

8 feet vs. 14 feet :)

If an Oasis can handle it the TI should have no problems!

Length is only one of their measurements. Total volume is what really counts.

The speed measurment I think is 17' 16' 15' or (lenght at water) line then (square root) symbol ...then X 1.3 = 5.36 knots. Unless the the boat can come up to plane speed. Then higher, this does not seem to jive with others mph measurments. I do not have gps. There is a post where someone attached TI Amas to AI of photo chop? No report of increase. For open water a Torqueedo x 2ea battery may be required. I'm in Sacramento have not been to open water other than Tomalles ? Bay sorry for mis-spell

Hey Split,

Have had a TI since August. Bought it from California Kayak at Jack London Square. Looking to Sail the TI near the Bay Bridge this Thanksgiving week, weather permitting. Will report back.
We are having the rudder issues that Hobie is fixing and still having a blast. Sailed in Oakland, Huntington Lake in the Sierras, Alviso (San Jose), Capitola and South Bay at the Palo Alto estuary. Our last trip was a weekend down to Los Osos/Morro Bay with our friends and their TI. Sure enough, we bumped into Brian who has a tandem. We are loving every bit of it.

Best,

Wile-E-Kayak

In addition to the SF bay usability question, the other concern is that one might become quickly bored with it. The Tandem nature of it should go along way to resolve that issue. If it is slow, getting around the Bay maybe long and unpleasant. However, given its size, you can potentially put it in at one location and pull it out at another to avoid the return leg. I will be very interested in your feedback.

The great thing about the TI and the AI is their flexibility. It's really had to get bored as they have many configurations. I was on the bay near the San Mateo bridge last weekend with at best 2mph squalls, I enjoyed the challenge of peddaling to the next patch of wind. These conditions are rare for the bay so this made a welcome change to fighting the current and surf. Don't mistake bordem for solitude and peace and quiet. :D
