Yesterday I took the Revolution 13 on the Silver River near Ocala. If you are not familiar, this is the river that starts at the Silver Springs attraction that is known for its glass bottomed boats. I launched downstream where the Silver River meets the Ocklawaha (Rays Wayside Park) and did the round trip to the spring and back. It was pretty hard going 5.25 miles upstream into the current but the ride back was quick and relaxing. It was an amazing trip with more wildlife than I have ever seen on any of my previous expeditions. I was too slow with my camera to catch the bald eagle or any of the river otters, but these guys were very obliging. There were also hundreds of turtles and birds.

Hunting and fishing are not allowed in the Silver River. Normally the gators are pretty skittish because they are heavily hunted in central Florida but not here. I actually got within five feet of this guy and he did not move. It is hard to tell from the picture but based upon the length of my kayak, this guy was around 11 ft long.

Do You Think? If you want to swim here you are a Darwin Award Nominee.

These monkeys actually live here in the wild. They escaped during filming of one of the old Tarzan movies.
