Will be making a long haul 15 hour round trip with my PA14 on PVC bunks, any tips or concerns I should be aware of? Should I carpet the PVC?

Thanks!

If the PVC bunks are smooth and everything is secure, There should be no concern regarding damage to the hull as long as the bunks are aligned in the scupper hole lines/hull grooves on the bottom of the hull. A lot of use store our PAs on the PVC for extended periods. Granted the PAs are not strapped down in storage. Carpet is a nice touch if you go that way. Up to you. You should be fine on just the PVC.

What diameter of PVC bunks do you have, how far are they spaced apart, what diameter and kind of PVC did you use? I'm interested in checking out your setup.

I use standard 3 inch white PVC that you can get at Lowe's or Home Depot. The distance between the PVC is roughly 11 inches. At least that's what I remember from my storage racks I originally built. That measurement is in the forums in several places.

Ideally you would set the PVC on whatever storage or transport frame you wanted to use and then sit the PA on the PVC to allow the PVC to conform to the bottom of the hull. The you drill the mounting holes into the PVC for the frame or trailer depending on attachment method. The remove the PA and finish securing the PVC. The key is to make sure the PA rests correctly on the PVC when all is done.

Here are some pics of how I set up my kayak trailer. 1 set of 3" schedule 40 PVC and 1 set of 2" notched to go over the wood bunk for extra hull support.

You're welcome, glad to share. I have 8 bolts/screws in the 3" pvc and the notched 2" seems to fit snug enough not to need any hardware.
