I'm looking at an 2001 Getaway and am curious about the rudders. I understand they are the older original or 'cam' style? And that they work well but that the newer style work better with less maintenance required. I was really hoping to find a newer getaway but they don't come up locally too often.

My questions are

1. What year did the getaways change over to new style rudder
2. Can an older getaway be upgraded to the new style, and how much would that cost. I'd do the labor myself.

Thanks in advance!

EZ Loc rudder systems started in 2004-2005.

EZ Loc rudder assemblies run just under $400 each, so you are looking at about $900 with pintles.

Not worth the update if you find an older boat. Find a newer one or stay with the older rudder system. Not that hard to learn or maintain.

Do a search in the forums for Rudders-cams/rake/alignment. You should come up with a detailed article written by Mr. Miller about the cam lock rudder system on the early cats...this article was a great help to me when I got my 2003 Getaway that had rudder issues. After resetting the rake and unsticking the cams, I haven't had any issues with the older system as long as I keep it lubricated. Have had the Getaway for four years.

I have a pair of EPO3 rudders looking for a home. What would it take to use them on my Getaway? (Evil grin)
