could rationalize that the good part of letting the aka get a couple inches out is the visual indication that things have come loose as opposed to keeping it very tight and perhaps going a long time before realizing that it had come loose.
The snap connector enables quick/easy removal of the aka.
If I were doing it again, I would try to avoid drilling/tapping the screw hole by using something like a compression hitch and kite line around the aka - sufficient that it would not pull over the knuckle assembly under pressure.
