I looked at Atwood chair, it won't work for my case. I use pedal a lot and need to lean back.

I don't know why you think you can't pedal with the Atwood in place. I do it all the time. If you need to just do a simple modification by attaching the front of the seat to the hatch.

I am confused with the last bit of your comment. Why do you need to lean back? I can really put lots of pressure on the pedals without leaning back, hence my question.

Interesting. I raised COG by putting foam under the original seat. My pedal was not as great and feel really not natural at all.
Atwood chair would raise COG to even higher based on picture. That's what conclude me to believe Atwood would not work for me.

I'm with you Tech. I wish the new Vantage seat sat a bit lower and could recline another notch or two. My old PVC back support was the best seat I ever experienced. Now trying to modify the Vantage seat but it's been a challenge. I'm the recliner type.

Perhaps my past experience as a cyclist influences my seating position, but I would find it unnatural to be pedalling in a reclined position. On my TI, my raised seat puts my hips close to level with the pedals, but I have not noticed any loss of stability (perhaps ignorance is bliss :D )

I have modified a kayak seat made for the Ascend line of kayaks to fit my 2007 islands. The is very much like the new hobie vantage seats but is much cheaper ($79). I recently tried on a very long and windy sail and it worked wonderfully! No back pain at all! The modifications only involved cutting the back frame a bit and lashing down the 4 corners. Great improvement!

I should perhaps add that I am awaiting spinal surgery to fuse L2 and L3 to an existing spinal fusion of L4, L5 and S1 (the latter is the triangular piece at the bottom of the spine) and have been having CT-guided cortisone needles into the "gap" periodically since the end of 2013, so making sure my TI seating is comfortable is a serious matter!

Unfortunately, rigging etc is the tough part...

I would recommend trying one of these:

I was having some back problems a few years back, and this thing made a huge difference. So much so I still use it even after the back has healed. I did a 26-mile 7.5-hour kayak trip using it last summer: not even a hint of any back discomfort.

It's super-cheap and fits in with the existing seat, so hard to go wrong trying it. Also the mesh back with air flow prevents your back from getting sweaty in hot weather.

X3 on the mesh lumbar support seat back! I've been using this for the last 2 years & left it attached the whole time. I usually fish 4-8hrs at a time & this seat back has alleviated my back pain. It attaches easily to the existing seat, adds minimal weight, is very durable & still allows me to easily enter, exit & pivot. It does not change my center of gravity, so I'm still very stable. I've added the seat back to all my other kayaks & highly recommend it.

Wow! This inexpensive (<$4 on Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HXPO4FC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) chairback is terrific. Used with a Hobie i-Comfort inflatable cushion, you have a seat made in heaven. Comfortable, comfortable, comfortable.

My back was broken about 15 yrs ago in a martial arts tournament, I used to be 5'9", now I'm 5'6", and have chronic severe back issues (not much can be done). My hip and most of my joints are also totally shot from doing way too much martial arts from the age of 15 till I was over 45 (who knew ( lol)).
One of the few things I can do is pedal my Hobie, which I try to do as my exercise program, for the longest time I tried to peddle 10-15 miles weekly (year round), however under doctors orders have had to back off from that (currently around 15 miles every three weeks).
I have an older 2012 TI currently with the standard seat (modified from stock a little). I find with just the standard seat the padding is too thin and becomes quite uncomfortable after an hour or so. I added about 1.5" thick latex foam padding under my seat for two reasons. First to pad my behind a little better making it more comfortable, and second to raise my behind out of the normal water pool nearly always at the base of the seat.
Here is my seat setup, I basically cut up an old pool float, put it into a lobster bag, then cinched up the lobster bag (like a laundry bag), and that's been on my boat for 3-4 yrs now with no issues of any kind, (simple and easy to do).
Image

I always carry area navigation maps just in case my GPS fails (especially in the vast keys), and incorporated a nice map pocket under each seat for my waterproof maps.

I find sitting as low as possible is most comfortable for me and feel sitting any higher than I do currently would be less comfortable for me. I also like sitting upright rather than reclined, with the seat straps tied off so the seat doesn't slip back (becoming extremely uncomfortable for me, when the seat reclines (kinda sneaks up on you)). I like having my lower back supported like I'm sitting in a deep bucket seat as the boat rocks back and forth in the waves. Actually I try to only go out in very flat water whenever possible, as the rocking motion just kills my back. I can no longer ride in powerboats anymore because of the pounding as they go over waves (sucks to be me (lol)).
Because the newer seats have a flat back (rather than a bucket), and you also look to sit much higher, I'm fairly sure the newer style seats would be much less comfortable in my particular situation. I suppose I could strap myself to the seat back, but that might be dangerous (thinking of the movie Moby Dick (lol)).
I'm not unhappy with my current setup, and hope to continue as long as my current boat lasts with no current plans to upgrade to the newer seat design at this time.
All just my opinion.
FE

I, too, am not a fan of the new seats. I have one on my 2015 AI. Because it is adjustable, and, because it has many adjustments, it is reasonably comfortable, although I've not sat in it more than a few hours. I have sat in the older cloth seats for 10 hrs (with a Hobie i-comfort inflatable cushion) and they are fine, especially with the new seat back (see above).

I just bought a 2016 AI. I took it out for 7 hours. I liked to report that my back love the new vantage seat. I wish I have bought it sooner.
