Jib sheet question for 14T

I have a 14 that I just bought a jib for, I'm pretty sure I have all of the parts that I need but I am unclear as to how the sheet is routed. Does the sheet return from the block on the jib back to the top of the cleat? Where does it dead end at, I guess is what I'm asking.

I rig my jib, as follows.

1.I tie the line to the top of the cleat
2.I then thread the line through the pulley on the jib
3.The back through the cleat
4. I then thread the line through the other cleat
5. Thread the line through the other pulley on the jib
6. I then tie off the line on top of the cleat.

This creates a loop

It would probably pay to have a dolphin striker fitted. If your boat is a 14, (not the turbo version) it will not have this, which is required for trapeze sailing, and probably for jib also. Maybe others can provide more info on this.

That is kinda how I figured it was supposed to go. I just wasn't sure. I've got everything else, dolphin striker, trap, furler, swivel, etc. So I should be ready to roll. Thanks guys.

I'm actually in the same boat so to speak. I had a H14T sold to me as a unirig H14. After getting a look at the extra parts that the guy "didn't know" what they did, I realized that it was a h14 turbo. Anyhow I've been sailing it for the last year as a unirig, but I just got a jib.

So here's my question. For the jib sheet, what length should I get it cut to and what thickness? Also, I think I very clearly have a picture of the rigging you described, but if you have a picture, I'd be grateful to get a look at it.

http://www.hca-na.org/ has a page under Rsources/ Technical Information/Hobie 14 specifications/Hobie 14 Line Lengths But it doesn't include Jibsheet specs. So I used the secs for the 16 - Jibsheet Line 5/16' Spun Braid 32'. It's a little long but I still don't have my Trapeeze setup, so I haven't shortened it yet.

Hi Guys,

On the note of rigging the jib on a hobie 14T could anyone send me any photos of the correct rigging. I'm interested in the way the blocks are positioned under the tramp using the jib block line. Also how the sheet is used around the small blocks on the jib.

Plus an overview of the whole rigging looking from the front of the boat and behind.

I need photos because at present I'm in the UK, while my hobie is in America, so need to make sure the parts i've got over here are going to work for me.

I'm new to catamaran sailing, and have sailed my Hobie 14T just a few times. I rig the jib sheets in a continuous loop, as described above. But I'm not especially crazy about this: the loop seems to get twisted and confused on the tramp, tangled up with the mainsheet, or falls through the tramp lacing.

Maybe the jib sheet is just too long? Does anyone use two separate (shorter) sheets for the jib, tied off with stopper knots?

To clean up the sheets on my Mystere 4.3 I put a small block with bungee cord and tied it to the front crossbar. Keep most of sheet out of water and keeps them apart.

Doug, If I understand correctly, you connect a block to the forward crossbar USING A BUNGEE, with the result of forming a sort of "W" shape with the jib sheet? I measured the jib sheet that came from the previous owner, and it is 32 feet long. Is this longer than need be?

Been to long since I had a 14 for length of line. You will have to play with it. But block(s) on crossbar should help.

The hobie catalog has the line length needed. 32' sounds about right though. When the jib is furled there is still a bit sitting in the tramp but I wouldn't call it excessive.
