Yea, the Murrays keyhole system is spendy. It was much cheaper when they had a plastic spreader bar, but there were problems with it failing and people falling off the trap. Not a good selling point! They remade the spreaders in both aluminum and carbon, but now only sell the carbon - too bad, the aluminum was much cheaper. Wonder why they stopped making that?
I think that the requirement (US Sailing or International? I forget) for trap systems that cannot get caught on anything has been puched back - to 2009? Something like that. However, there is a movement to make this a requirement, as trap hooks are indeed a danger of getting caught on things, especially in capsizes, trapping people underwater.
