Ever have a problem with gear adrift in the hull? Today while getting ready to sail, I pulled ashore, opened the rear hatch where I keep the main sheet, and saw that it had vanished. Checking each of the other hatches, still no luck. So finally I picked up the bow and rocked the boat violently until it slid back to the rear hatch area where it could be retrieved.

Then I remembered what my good friend Josh mentioned -- there are a couple of small holes in the Hobie hatches for lashing such items. Those Hobie engineers seem to think of the smallest details!

Any small string will do. This will not interfere with the sealing of the hatch or use of the Gear Bucket -- here's where you'll find them:

Sailing gear (Boom-bat above/ main sheet below) that stays with the boat.

Both the Adventure (+ Island) and Revolution also have attachment holes in the main hatches as well, but most people never notice them. Look inside and you'll see something like this:

Speaking of hatches, while you're cleaning your hatch seals with silicon, and happen to notice the outside surface looking a bit shoddy, you can wipe it down with silicon to dress it up. Might as well catch the hinges and handle while you're at it (and don't forget the main hatch lip). Here's a before and after:

Hey RR,
Good info. What I use to avoid loss inside the hull is a mesh bag from Sports Authority in which I can store tackle boxes, a bow or tow line, sponge, or other gear that tends to disappear. The mesh bag seems to provide enough friction so that the objects ususally do not go far. Then, of course you can always secure the draw string on the bag to the hatch lip or the hatch cover as you noted.

Hey Nutzie,
If your keg will fit thru the 8 inch hatch, then you could fill one of the new Hobie "dry" bags with ice, set the keg in that and you'd be good to go :!: Might not even need RR's leash arrangement for that baby. However, I would advise no surf launches with a full keg (nor an empty one on the return, for that matter!). Just remember that a min_, err keg, is a terrible thing to waste... Keep us posted on how that works out fer ya.
