Gelcoat help

I did some repair work in one of my daggers and I need/want to gelcoat the bottom 8-10 inches or so. How thick does gelcoat go on? Do I need to sand down the section that I'm doing so it will be even after I gelcoat? Should/Can I thin gelcoat? What is best to apply it with?

Best is to sprsy over a perfect sanded shape. Lots of thin layers. This requires less sanding after spraying. You can pain it on though... then sand more.

JS... I'm finishing up an article on spraying gelcoat for the Hobie HOTLINE magazine as we tap away at our keyboards. I will first have to join!! vbg I am a very new owner. Not sure how much there is there for me as I am just a daysailor but I'll give it a go. I followed the link and and tried to join but it locked up my browser. I use Firefox. I'll try again with IE. Is there an annual fee? I didn't see it posted anywhere on the site.
