I plan to restore my Hobie 16 but am finding it difficult to diagnose and get clear directions on how to fix the hulls. Hopefully someone can help.

Two issues:
1) There is a short section on starboard hull, were it seem the deck is separated from the outside sidewall of the pontoon (About 12 inches) I plan to use West Systems Six10 to secure this. Is there anything else I should know, or consider for this repair?

2) I have cracking in the gelcoat, at least I think that is what it is. The deck is NOT soft, but has places where it looks like a broken egg shell. Is this gelcoat cracking? If so, how should I repair this? I think I should clean out and widen each crack, then fill with epoxy, is this correct?

Finally, I want to repaint the hulls back to their original color. Do I accomplish this with gelcoat? I'm a little confused on this part. Also, how should I prep the surface, sand it? Thank you.

Mike, is there any chance of you taking some digital photos of the issues on your boat and attaching them to an email? If you can, my email is midwinterswest (at) cox (dot) net . Rick
