Those are damn fine sails, will follow your lead when money permits.

So much for 'no flack about no lifejackets'

Every event we sail in there is a simple option put it on or don't touch the water - I firmly believe in that, despite what I or anybody feels. Sounds like an advert for condoms and aids. The water police will actually arrest us without lifejackets or at least a very stern warning. You are two up which would help if in trouble.

Could have drowned when tacking while on trapeze - coming in and tiller extension goes through lifejacket and capsizing, Legs caught in straps and capsizing etc, but I prefer it on despite being hot and awkward - helps a lot with impact protection and peace of mind. Helps immensely with energy conservation when capsized or fallen overboard.

On a windsurfer it will be dangerous to wear one, windsurfer will not sail away. Yes have seen high speed wipeouts, the plastic main shaped with the guys face in it.

Would like to know what the real life span of a H18 main in pentex would be. Since I am also old - cannot see too well - in your pics is your mast 'S' bending. I would suggest moving your spin higher as well.

I would consider it a privilege to sail with you despite never having met you and living on the wrong side of the world. (Lifejacket or none)

Enjoy.

Cat sailing is what i love and unlike you with careers, for the last year i have done nothing but sail my catamaran. Close to 3+ times a week. Thats the great thing about being at a community college. I have a lot of free time. I have probably been sailing more times in the last year than you have in the last 5 years. So dont get in my face and say my opinion isnt worth a damn. You know i love you guys on the forum, just look at my signature. i have learned more from this forum than anywhere else in the sailing world. But when someone calls me out like that i take personal offense. Unlike you speace i can go sailing all day and get up the next day without my back and my knees hurting and cry about it. And do it all over again the next day. ill do it everyday till i cant anymore. You may have more experience cat sailing, and you probably have more experience in laying the transcontinental railway (since you were probably there), but i guarentee you i have just as much passion and enthusiasm about cat sailing as you do.

Okay my hat is in my hand and asking for forgiveness.   I knew better than to react the way I did and at the time almost deleted the message after I wrote it knowing that it was all unnecessary. But with the retard and jackass blahblahblah comment it fired me up. Sorry for the very unkind words to you Sgtpepperoni. I also have learned a great deal from everyone on this forum and will keep it to the facts from now on and not let my panties get into a wad dealving into opinions with everyone. I learn by studying all I can about a subject and all past experiences. When opinions are given it is the same as saying you are a democrat or republican, 50% of country is with you and 50% are against you and no matter how good you explain your view point the other side just doesn't get it. No more opinions from me unless asked for!!!!!

Regards to all.

The last few posts are just another example of why the Hobie 18 fleet is known as " The Gentleman's Fleet"

Nothing wrong with what I like to call "an enthusiastic discussion", as long as, at the end, we all can walk away friends.

Hats off to all for taking the high road.

Looking forward to seeing many of you on the water in Havasu.

Stephen

Now that we are all happy again, wheres my apology

Took the boat to a local regatta, my 18 and a 16 were the only cats there. They started us 10 mins behind the monos (tanzers, flying scots, etc). We would catch them on the first downwind leg and pass them, then finish before they had rounded C mark the second time. Awesome!! I had never sailed with a mono fleet before and they were very open to us beforehand and not so talkative afterwards. I really enjoyed screaming thru them under spin at 15kts. The wind and weather could not have been better. Looking forward to the event.
