Hello I am new to the hobie world and I purchased a used hobie mirage classic with the v1. I was wondering if anyone had some advice on upgrading to the GT kit? Or is it better to buy a new drive all together? Thanks!!

The GT Upgrade kit is a great choice.

Thanks I saw the upgrade kit! I was actually trying to figure out if I should get the kit or buy a brand new pedal drive!

Lots more $ for a complete drive, but also options... GT, Kick Up, 180?

Do you know if I could put the newer pedal drives in the old school hobie mirage classic? I think if I read the number correctly it's a 1992 hobie mirage.

If your Classic has the original Drive, it precedes the "V-1". It would have an aluminum spine and stainless sprockets. That's actually an excellent Drive, very robust. You can just add Turbofins to it and it will perform very well. If you actually have a V-1, the GT upgrade should work nicely.

The older drivewells are a little smaller and also tend to shrink with age. A newer drive can be a tight fit -- you might have to do some trimming to accommodate it. I would work off the original Drive unless it has a cracked spine or other serious problem.

BTW, I think the first Hobie Mirage (Classic) was sold in 1997 at the earliest, and was fiberglass. Rotomolding began shortly after. the Classics were made through 2005 or 2006.
