1. Mirage drives on my new Oasis are very nice but seem undersized for the boat. Previously owned a Tandem Island with turbo fins which seemed twice the surface area of the Oasis drives. Turbo upgrade for the Oasis does not seem much of an improvement.
2. Foam blocks which are supposed to be in the Oasis are missing. Is this by design or an oversight?
3. When operating the Oasis as a solo boat what is the location and recommended weight to be added in the front? Would you also install the second mirage drive?
4. Rudder control seems stiff when crossing the center position even after adjustments at the rear and making sure it is fully locked. Other suggesting causing this problem?
5. When using as a fishing platform turning to the rear of the boat to access fishing rods or other equipment seems to make the boat unstable. Does the oasis have stability issues?
thanks,
Don

The 180 Turbo Fins are more efficient than the older fins but may feel easier to pedal. You can adjust fin tension / rotation with the screw at the top of the mast. Back that out to add resistance / less twist. Usually harder to pedal, but theoretically better performance at higher speed. The man I trust is Roadrunner and he believes in very loose fins for best performance.

Foam may be wedged up in inaccessible areas of the hull. Place the hull in a dark room or garage and get a bright light inside. You should see shadowed areas where the foam is. Locations vary greatly by hull model.

Weight in the forward seat area to counterbalance the weight aft. Look at the waterline when in the water and fully loaded to determine how much weight. No drive in the forward well. Use the cassette plug in the well.

The steering lines are likely too tight. This also varies with temperature, so adjustment when in the water (or similar temperature would be best. The boats expand in heat. That makes lines get tighter. Otherwise steering should be smooth.

The Oasis is considered a very stable platform.

Speed and efficiency are partly determined by waterline length. When solo, if the bow is not in and piercing water then your waterline length will be reduced. I filled one cassette plug with lead shot and still need to store heavy items like anchor and drinks in the front hatch to get the bow down.

Initial stability is somewhat poor but sorts out once you lean a few degrees. It did take us some time to get use to it coming from wider Hobie Outfitters with greater initial stability. We do have the sidekick amas and use them in open water.

Matt, thanks for the useful information. I still have not been able to find any foam blocks in my new Oasis. Even took camera pictures from all of the open hatches and no blocks. Can you find out where the blocks are supposed to be and will the dealer order the blocks as a missing item? Also, what is the purpose of the small loop of elastic cord attached to the front of each hatch cover? thanks

That cord corrals the Mirage drive FWD/REV pull handles. On some models the pull handle length is too short for this to be effective.

On your stability question, this video shows how easy it is to flip/capsize an Oasis. It also shows methods for righting and reentry both solo and with a partner. In my experience reentry is a bit harder for me than these guys make it look.
