Oh, if you decide to get aftermarket "SX" sails, from my experience w/ my P19MX (squaretop) sails I would recommend "Pentex" for the mainsail as it is fully battened ... you will get good service life there. But for the jib I would recommend "Racing Dacron" as a material. The "Pentex" maybe slightly faster when new, but it degrades quicker with flogging and furling .... "Racing Dacron" will last longer especially w/ novice crews and therefore is faster over a longer time period.

And it's amazing when the "Pentex" does degrade, how fast it will happen ..... in the morning you have a servicable jib .... in the afternoon you have a "paint tarp" w/ pin holes through out it .....

It's all good boys.

I wrote that with a severe case of fiberglass splinters from grinding some dudes battens for a sq top. I meant every word of it by the way. Possibly a bit harsh, but it was a harsh situation.

Stephen, yes, it was a little ribbing. I can't afford to upset Jeremy and jeopardize my primary source of all things Hobie. However, you are right my post leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

Hey Mike, I am using a square top main with my craptip, and it seems to work fine. these babies are from Chip at WhirlWind Sails. My main is mylar and the jib is five ounce dacron. A custom main like mine will cost more but, if you give chip a call, he might hook you up with a good deal on a std mylar square top setup.
