Hey All, I have '82 18 hulls, soon to be added under an SX rig. Will be adding the crossbar anchor reinforcements, but wondering about details of reinforcing the fiberglass first?

Thanks!

If the fiberglass is structurally sound and without any white fracture lines you shouldn't need to add any reinforcing.

Hello, if you want to keep your 18, I suggest that you do the Reinforcing with fibre glass, Especially under the front beam, Make sure you give it a good scuff up and acetone it down. Naturally this is so much better to do when the hulls are upside down,Before you glass, Mix up some epoxy and Micro balloons until you get a super thick consistency then aplie it to the 90 deg angle thats left over from were the top joins to the hull..use plenty of this and go forward of the crossbar and behind, when its in their use a desert spoon to give it a radius so it is no longer 90 deg, when this is nearly dry, start laying your strips of epoxy saturated glass over the Radius, it should conform very nicely and this is how you will get all your strength, also glass around were you will be putting the upgraded ankor plates, i have seen the HULL spit right through there with out the extra glassing and this usually results in a destroyed hull. Glass up your boat, it's a bit of mucking around But your putting ankor plates on so, go the extra yard, it's well worth the extra effort. Hope this helps Cheers
