Hi, my name is Robert, and my daughter just acquired an old Hobie 16 that we are restoring. The boat is solid, we will need to replace the tramp and the lines but the sails appear usable. I am wondering if someone can help me find out what year it is, the serial number is stamped into one of the forward pylons, the number is 1570. I also know that the number format and placement changed in 1973. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Robert

Hi Robert,

Can you attach a photo of the serial number so that we can take a look at it?

Thanks!

I tried to post a pic, I don't know what I am doing I guess. But the number is stamped into the left front pylon on the outside. There are 4 digits, 1570. The transoms are smooth. Of course is has been painted but I could not find any evidence that there was a number there.

Thank, Robert. The photo didn't come through but I can tell you that boats with only a 4 digit hull number are older than 1973. Beyond that, there isn't much we can do to determine the exact age.

There are ways to update the boat with current hardware though so feel free to poke around the forum to check out solutions or you can post a specific question if there is something you would like to change or update that you are unsure about.

Thanks, kinda what I thought about the age, I was hoping for an idea of the year. Thought some one wou have an idea of how many boats were built before 73. Thanks anyway.
