Add Reef Points to New Sail / Comptip Mast

We have a new mainsail, 2011 comptip mast, and a new standard halyard. I'd like to have a sailmaker add a set of reef points to the sail, do you think that could work with the comptip mast? I'm thinking that to secure the main halyard when reefed, I would drop the sail, then attach a spectra strop from the head of the mainsail to the existing halyard shackle, so that I can use the existing halyard lock.

Do you think this plan could work, or is there another way to make it work? Other than reinforcing the new reef points like the current tack and clew of the sail, is there anything in particular I should ask the sailmaker to do? Thanks in advance!

Not advised with a CompTip. The head of the sail needs to be held in at the masthead by the halyard. If the sail head is in the plastic track, it will pull out of the luff track when under load.

What if the reef took in the first 3 batten pockets, such that the head of the sail ended up below the CompTip completely?

I have reef points in my Getaway sail, above the 2nd batten. I use a 6' pigtail from the halyard to the head of the sail, and clip the halyard in the fork on the mast. I bought the 18" metal track in case I have a problem with the sail pulling out, but so far it's been fine so I haven't installed it.
Which reminds me, Matt, just HOW do I install it? Can I pry out the plastic track without cracking it? Then cut the plastic track off and use a rubber mallet to reinstall it and the metal track?

The reefed sail is actually faster in high wind than feathering the mainsail. I expect because I can use the remaining sail more efficiently. And lowering the sail so far reduces the chance of capsize considerably.
