Another thing to help with drilling out future rivits is to use an oversized drill bit to just remove the head. Also, when cutting stainless rivits use a sharp drill and don't take too long. Stainless likes to work harden. Using cutting oil will help alleviate this somewhat.

You can buy sealed rivits so you don't have to use the caps.
