I bent under pressure from my father and painted the mast and boom. Flat black. It looks like new! Any scuffs will show black under the paint. No biggy. The tramp was another matter. Has anyone tried to find yellow vinyl dye? No small feat! I ended up calling Duplicolor direct and they found someone who bought a "whole case" in the last year. Anyway, by the end of the day I had four cans of spray dye in my hands. Yellow over old yellow may last a year or two, and that's all I'm asking for. It took about three and a half cans to do the job, if anyone cares....

Now, you want to talk about a bright, gawdy boat. Red hulls and a bright yellow tramp!!! Photos later this week..... I really want to get some outside photos with the mast up before winter sets in.

Duplicolor on your yellow tramp? Cool, must see before and after pictures!

My tramp was heavily stained so I reinstalled it upside down and I'll squeeze a few more years of use out of it.

I may be able to squeeze a decade or two more with some freshly applied Duplicolor on my yellow vinyl tramp!

Holy Hobie,
Christopher

Red sure is getting to be a popular color. Looks good too.

Here are some pics with her all put together. Note the home-made "mast up" / mast support I welding up. Works really good. My wife turns the winch handle while I keep the mast centered.

Thanks! I got lucky! I want all you guys to notice the home-made mast support that extends into a mast-up. I swear it saved my marriage on my old boat. If you look at the pics, you just hook up to the jib halyard and have someone crank away while you steady the mast. A guy could do it by himself if he had a 12v winch with a remote that would reach the middle of the tramp. The trick is to get the pully on the support high enough to lift the mast off the tramp frame. If anyone wants hard measurements, let me know.

Nice looking orange H-16. I painted my 79 Hobie orange with Awlgrip. I mixed two different colors of orange to get the correct color. The boat looked great and went faster too. After one year I traded it in on a 87 Nationals boat. I now plan on faring & finishing my 89 H-18 Worlds boat in white.

Well...it's really bright red. I wanted orange but couldn't get anyone to mix the paint for me. I used Brightsides and it only comes in red or yellow. No orange. But I am very happy with how it turned out!

The computer is a new Dell. Hmm. Or I'm color blind and never knew it, perhaps that is why I'm not the paint engineer at work. Looking closer it's red.
