Hi all,

I recently bought a 2004 worlds edition hobie 16, and the only pair of sails I have for it are the Dacron worlds sails (see link below) in grey. I know that these sails are rare and I don't want to mess them up (say, I capsize and go right through the main, tearing it apart). If anything ever happens to them, would hobie help me make a new pair of the same sail design? Its a limited edition boat, so I'm thinking not and hoping they would.

Cheers,

The sail cloth colors are still available, but there is no way to re create the Myan and Coke graphics here.

I had the same concern with my new sails from the European championships.

I finally decided that there is no 'collectors market' where people are collecting unique sails and values are skyrocketing for rare editions.

Go out, sail it like you stole it, and enjoy it! If you save it and protect it, you won't be able to enjoy it and show it off like you want to. The likehood of it getting destroyed beyond repair are VERY slim. 20 or 40 years from now, you don't want beautiful old sails in mint condition, so that you can leave them for your kin, who has no appreciation for them, since they never saw them before, and they sell them for $100 on craigslist.

Life is short! Go sailing!

Matt, so does that mean I could order the grey sails without the graphics? If so, then I could probably figure out the graphics myself with an artist or something if I ever screw the sails up. The graphics look similar to iron-on type material which would probably work. If not, a custom sticker would definitely work.

Good advice on life is short though, whatever kids I will have probably won't give a nut about a limited edition boat/sails!

Yes. Custom sails.
