A couple rivets have fallen out of some of my clew plates. I'd like to press some new ones on. Are these available for sale? I wouldn't mind a McMaster Carr part either.

I find it’s easier to just use stainless steel machine screws (either #6 or #8) with a nut and loctite. Install the screw, apply loctite, and torque the nut. Then use a dremel to cut the excess screw off flush and smooth over the cut edge.

It won’t look as pretty as the rivet, but it’ll be stronger and easier to install.

Try your local hardware store, they should have rivets in the drawers of little pieces.

They are easy to set with just two hammers, and a small C-clamp. The clamp helps to hold the plates together, and in place to start with. There are special setting tools, that don't deform the head, but with a large hammer for the anvil, and a smaller one to hit the little end work probably better than you might think. Look a lot better than pop rivets too, and nothing sticking out to snag anything.

The trailer tongue makes a good anvil.
